Frequently Asked Questions (eLAB)

Why comes ´eLABbase´ with a PC-parallel-port interface and not USB or ... ?
For nearly all programmable semiconductors (MCU's, (C)PLD's, FPGA's) a parallel port interface based, simple programming cable is available. We emulate this component specific programming hardware within the FPGA of ´eLABbase´. This leads to following advantages: no costs for the respective programming hardware and already existing and proven programming software can be used. With a USB based solution this won´t be possible.

Are ´eLAB´ links (cables and connectors) capable of transfering analog signals ?
Signal assignment within the flat cable is only a guideline which provides for good module compatibility. For special modules other assignments can be made. It is always to consider whether another connector with another coding/size/layout suits mechanically or electrically better. This connection technique offers wide use, buses can be implemented easily, it´s durable, reliable and inexpensive.

Is a CE marking placed on ´eLAB´ components ?
´eLAB´ components are specified for use as test and prototype platforms for hardware and software development in laboratory environments or for installation in electrical appliances. Therefore CE marking is not applicable. Hardware and software programmed into products, as well as product environment, has strong influence on safety- and EMC-behaviour. Use, processing and operation of these products must be limited to trained persons or institutions and be in accordance to legal provisions, safety- and EMC-rules.
We point out expressly that end products, containing ´eLAB´ components, must be in compliance with the applicable CE marking directive(s).
