dlk -
development
The development of a ´dlk´ based system is divided into following steps:
- experiment* with the reconfigurable ´dlk´ demo board
system
- design an application-specific board
- re-arrange the supplied sources for the application
- start-up new board, download JTAG emulation
- program CPLD using "iMPACT" (Xilinx ´ISE´)
- develop application, logic and programs, compile
- download programs and logic to the system
- Debug (possibly back to 6.)
- finally download application to Flash-memory, disconnect
board from PC - the system is now self-bootable
- for administration and data exchange re-connect board with
PC at any time
* step 1. is not popular, it has the smell of "tinkering".
Reconfigurable systems offer much more possibilities and variations
compared to conventional systems. Hardware will become modularizable,
alterable, if
necessary reloadable, erasable, self-test routines can be loaded on the
board, one printed circuit board can suddenly be used for multiple
applications...
Before beginning with systems design, the "feeling" for new horizons
should be attained - and this can be done most efficiently by examining
an existing system - understanding it -
extending it and "playing" around in search of new ideas.
